Why Good Handoff Matters More Than Perfect Screens

A beautiful screen is not enough. I have learned this while designing websites, product interfaces, WordPress builds, and front-end-heavy projects.

A design can look polished in Figma, but if the handoff is unclear, the final product can still become inconsistent. Good handoff is not just sharing a Figma link. It explains how the interface behaves.

A screen has more than one state

Default, hover, focus, loading, empty, error, success, disabled, mobile, and edge-case states all matter. If these are missing, developers or AI agents have to guess.

Acceptance criteria protect design intent

I like handoff notes that describe what done means. This is simple, but it makes implementation clearer.

Good handoff turns a design file into a shared product agreement.

That is why I treat handoff as a product design skill, not admin work.
